This festival, which is very gentle and sattvic, is centuries old - since then it is a unique festival focused on women's respect and safety. On this day, sisters tie a rakhi on their brother's right hand and tilak on his forehead and wish him a long life. In return, the brother promises to protect them. It is believed that the colorful thread of Rakhi strengthens the bonds of brotherly love and assures them to live together in happiness and sorrow.

 

Besides emotional siblings, many emotional ties are also tied to this festival which is beyond the boundaries of religion, caste and country. This festival is a festival of strengthening relationships with the bond of intimacy and affection. This is the reason that on this occasion there is a trend to tie rakhi not only to sister brother but also in other relations. The Guru ties the disciple with a protective coat and the disciple to the Guru. In India in ancient times, when a graduate leaves the Gurukul after completing his education, he used to tie the Rakshatutra to get the blessing of the Acharya while the Acharya used to tie the Rakshatasutra to his student with the wish that he had acquired the knowledge He should use it properly in his future life. According to this tradition, even before any religious law, the priest binds the guard and the priest to the priest. In this way, the two bind each other in their bonds to protect each other's honor.

 

The two threads of Rakhi have a deep connection not only with brotherhood, but also with all human sensibilities. It is a force to strengthen brother and sister relationship. There is a high tower of ideals. There is a unique link of cultural traditions. The customs are highly respected. The importance of Rakhi festival was earlier in North India. Today it is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over India. In Maharashtra, it is celebrated as Narali Purnima. People donate coconut to the Varuna king in the sea. Three eyes of coconut are considered three eyes of Lord Shiva. In South India it is known as avani avittham

पुराने जमाने में रक्षाबंधन का अलग महत्व था। आवागमन के साधन और सुविधाएं नहीं थीं। इसलिए ससुराल गयी बेटी के लिए यह सावन के महीने का विशेष पर्व था। राखी के बहाने स्वजनों और भाइयों से भेंट की भावना छिपी होती थी। सभी शादीशुदा लड़कियां मायके आती थीं। सखी-सहेलियां आपस में मिलती थीं, नाचती-गाती थी और अपने लगे हाथ सुख-दुख भी मिल-बांट लेती थीं।

 

राखी का त्योहार कब शुरू हुआ इसे ठीक से कोई नहीं जानता। कहते हैं देव और दानवों में जब युद्ध शुरू हुआ तो दानव हावी होते नजर आने लगे। इससे इन्द्र बड़े परेशान हो गए। वे घबराकर बृहस्पति के पास गए। इन्द्र की व्यथा उनकी पत्नी इंद्राणी ने समझ ली थी। उसने रेशम का एक धागा मंत्रों की शक्ति से पवित्र कर इन्द्र के हाथ में बांध दिया। वह श्रावण पूर्णिमा का दिन था। लोगों का विश्वास है कि इस युद्ध में इसी धागे की मंत्रशक्ति से इन्द्र की विजय हुई थी। उसी दिन से श्रावण पूर्णिमा के दिन रेशमी धागा बांधने की प्रथा चली आ रही है। शायद इसी प्रथा के चलते पुराने जमाने में राजपूत जब युद्ध के लिए जाते थे तो महिलाएं उनके माथे पर तिलक लगाकर हाथ में रेशमी धागा बांधती थीं। इस विश्वास के साथ कि धागा उन्हें विजयश्री के साथ वापस ले आएगा।

 

स्कंध पुराण, पद्मपुराण और श्रीमद्भागवत में वामनावतार नामक कथा में रक्षाबंधन का प्रसंग मिलता है। कथा कुछ इस प्रकार है- दानवेन्द्र राजा बलि ने जब 100 यज्ञ पूर्ण कर स्वर्ग का राज्य छीनने का प्रयत्न किया तो इन्द्र आदि देवताओं में खलबली मच गई और वे सभी भगवान विष्णु से प्रार्थना करने पहुंचे। तब भगवान वामन अवतार लेकर ब्राह्मण का वेष धारण कर राजा बलि से भिक्षा मांगने पहुंचे। गुरु के मना करने पर भी बलि ने तीन पग भूमि दान कर दी। भगवान ने तीन पग में सारा आकाश पाताल और धरती नापकर राजा बलि को रसातल में भेज दिया। इस प्रकार भगवान विष्णु द्वारा बलि राजा के अभिमान को चकनाचूर कर देने के कारण यह पर्व बलेव नाम से भी प्रसिद्ध है।

 

 

रक्षाबंधन महत्व एवं मनाने की बात महाभारत में भी उल्लेखित है कि जब ज्येष्ठ पाण्डव युधिष्ठिर ने भगवान कृष्ण से पूछा कि मैं सभी संकटों को कैसे पार कर सकता हूं, तब भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने उनकी तथा उनकी सेना की रक्षा के लिए राखी का त्योहार मनाने की सलाह दी थी। उनका कहना था कि राखी के इस रेशमी धागे में वह शक्ति है जिससे आप हर आपत्ति से मुक्ति पा सकते हैं। इस समय द्रौपदी द्वारा श्रीकृष्ण को तथा कुंती द्वारा अभिमन्यु को राखी बांधने के कई उल्लेख मिलते हैं।......
